Gets the job done, there are better choices probably Jul 27, 2010 I really don't care for this grinder at all. It does get the job done, but transferring from the grinder to the coffee maker is a messy business. The 'chamber maid cleaning system' is pretty ineffective. Some manual cleaning is still required, and the cleaning system actually hinders getting the last bit of grind/debris out of the chamber. It's awkward to use because the electric cord is so short it's a bare couple of inches from the wall.

Not very good for coarse grind Jul 27, 2010 I like that it's got detachable parts for easy cleaning. The price is good and it's reasonably attractive. I bought it mainly for coarse grounds for my french press--it's not particularly good for that. The coarse setting produces grounds that are a little too fine and not very consistent.

Inconsistent grind equals bitter coffee Jul 26, 2010 I bought this blade grinder on its good reviews several months ago. It's convenient, reasonably quiet, and I like the "Chambermaid Cleaning System," which is just this piece of plastic that you rotate to get the extra grinds out. Some reviewers thought this was useless but I found it to be much more effective than tapping for removing those last grinds.
Unfortunately, I can't get a decent cup of french press or drip coffee out of it to save my life! The reason is that, even on the coursest setting, the grinder produces too many "fines"--tiny specks of coffee powder that brew faster than the larger grounds. These specks are quickly over-extracted, which produce the characteristic burnt or bitter flavor of bad coffee. If you're like my grandfather you might not notice, since he thinks that's what coffee's *supposed* to taste like.
If you make espresso, this grinder might be OK but if you're planning to use it for drip or french press, do yourself a favor and get a burr grinder or grind your coffee at the store.
P.S. You could also use the cold-brew method to brew coffee with this grinder. I didn't realize the Mr. Coffee was bad for hot brewing until only recently because I almost exclusively brew cold. Leave equal parts water and coffee in a jar at room temp overnight. Strain the resulting concentrate and add hot milk or water to taste.

Much lamer than I imagined Jul 26, 2010 It boasts an automatic timer that grinds your beans the right about of time then turns off. But it makes you hold down an uncomfortable lever contraption on the cap in order to make it turn on at all. It's feels clumsy when trying to dismantle the cap and put it back together. The chamber maid is neat, but doesn't get everything around the edges and will surely break eventually. The selection lights would continue to stay on after I was finished grinding so I had to unplug the device from the wall when not in use. The power chord is about a foot long!
I got this to replace a simple grind-in-the-cap style grinder that would make a mess putting the cap back on. The Mr. Coffee is neat because the grind device comes off so you have less potential for a mess. I use it to grind espresso and it's pretty hard to scoop coffee out of the deep container and worthless with the flip up cap on. The Chamber maid gets all in the way when trying to scoop as well. Taking the cap off can potentially create the same mess that my other grinder made.
I could hold my old grinder in my hand and shake it up and down during grinding to attempt to grind beans more evenly. This one is too big and doesn't fit good in your hand so you can't do that easily and it tends to grind the beans at the bottom more finely than those at the top. Then it turns off automatically because of the silly timer, when you don't want it do.
Neat idea, bad execution. I went back to my simple grinder.

Works like magic as long as it does! Jul 24, 2010 Owned two of them in the last one year... bought from Target after a friend suggested its great for spices.. I use it very rarely for grinding spices and admit that it works wonders... Used the first one mildly for about 7 months and it broke all of a sudden... bought another one because i absolutely loved it and the second one lasted 3 uses only.. am very disappointed with it.. searching for a new more durable one for grinding spices at least...
